Layered Abstraction

This project took place in late 2015 as a means to try a new method of printing called viscosity printmaking. The method allows you to create multiple areas of tone and colour on a single plate, an effect that is compounded when layered on top of a second plate.

The designs made on the copper plates were taken from architectural studies and were made using aquatint and tape. The aim was to create the illusion of space and perspective in an abstract form that dismissed the traditional rectangular format.
